Looking for teleplay writers group

Hi, I belong to the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers (RMFW) group, and have been attending weekly critique groups for almost 6 years. But as you might guess RMFW is focused on novel and short story length fiction. What I'm looking for is a critique group here in Denver that specializes on teleplays. Does anyone know of such a group here in Denver?

Beth Fox Heisinger

James, perhaps look through the "Meetups" section. Or, perhaps post and organize a meetup yourself to start a group in your area. :) Best to you!

David E. Gates

I suspect they'd like my book, The Roots of Evil. Shame I don't live nearer to be able to attend.

Jefferson McClure

Hey James, I know a few teleplay writers through my local social "dramatic writers" (screenwriters and playwrights) group. We have sporadic meetups and it might be an ideal place to get a small critique group together. I don't think we have anything planned at the moment, but I wouldn't be surprised if the organizer gets something together in July or August. In the meantime, here's the organization that we're attached to: https://lighthousewriters.org/ . It's mostly novelists, memoirists, and poets, but we're trying to carve out a stronger screenwriting presence. Right now is actually a pretty good time to check them out--their current Lit Fest is a yearly confab of workshops, salons, readings, etc. and they've been getting better and better each year about including dramatic writers.

Mike Romoth

Hey James. I'm a Denver guy.

David Levy

Why not connect with TV writers on here for the same purpose? Plenty to network with if you want to have a circle of writers to provide feedback on teleplays.

P. James Norris

David, that's what I'm trying to do.

P. James Norris

Well, if y'all get something going, I'd be VERY interested in attending. To get a feel for the quality of my writing, you can look at the STTNG spec script I've posted here at Stage32. I've got a TV pilot spec script that I've submitted to a number of this year's contests, and the first review wasn't what I hoped it would be. So I'm looking for a critique group to help me polish it for next year's contests assuming that the other contests results are similar.

Stuart Clarke

I'm in as well...

Does anyone know how to start a group?

Kerry Gleason

I can look into centrally located space for a group meeting and coordinate with James. I'm in the RiNo District.

P. James Norris

Starting a group is easy--I just started a new RMFW group. You find a group of people who can meet on a common night and a place to meet. My RMFW group meets at a local Panera's--they're happy to have us 'cause we buy stuff and they're happy to have customers because people are more likely to enter a store that already has patrons.

P. James Norris

Sounds like there might be enough people interested to get a group started. While Kerry finds us a "centrally located space", the next issue is figuring out if there's a common night everyone could meet. I'll set up a survey monkey survey to poll people for nights they can meet.

Robin Juliet

The Lighthouse Writer's group focuses on all kinds of writing and offers professional level seminars, etc. It's a nonprofit near Race and Colfax.

P. James Norris

Robin, thanks.
