Screenplay genres

I'm curious. What is the genre of the last screenplay you completed?

Sarah Gabrielle Baron

I did my first children's movie, 'Roots of Magic' in January. It was my 7th screenplay. It's on my loglines page if you want to take a peek - I'm really hungry for peer feed-back on this one (happy to do 'script swaps' too). I've done a post-apocalyptic western (set in the Canadian winter), a political-action, an art-house 'fantasy/apocalypse', an action movie, two historical fiction, and two horror (shorts). I haven't had anything optioned/produced (yet!). What was the genre of your last complete screenplay, Michael?

Michael Arscott

God help me, I wrote a supernatural horror script and completed it just a couple of months ago. I wanted to bring some life to this legend of The Sack Man. He turned out to be more like the Bogeyman, but I wanted to squeeze more out of the story than what I've seen of this type of genre before.

Erica Benedikty

I wrote a 66 page TV Pilot in 25 days in the end of the world apocalypse genre. Last one before that was a Fantasy adventure script.

Shawn Speake

I wrote my last 3 stories as THRILLERS according to classes I take with John Truby. With two of the stories, the opening beat, or the crime of the adversary, didn't fit. So I took it out, and got coverage from THE HAPPY WRITERS/THE WEINSTEIN COMPANY. Their genre description for my story style is: UNUSUAL DRAMAS.

I've put on my sci-fi helmet and written a TV Pilot for a deep space mission to save humanity. I also wrote a quirky drama about the ghost of a dog, and an action piece with a female assassin. Now, onto the western I wanted to write. :)

Tony Cella

@William That sounds interesting. What's the plot?

William Martell

When bounty hunter Rocklin arrives in a western town he finds that the rancher who sent for him has been murdered and most of the townsfolk are at each other's throats... and want Rocklin to to get out of town by sundown. Just a typical western, but without clothes.

Virginia Brucker

Historical drama set in 1963 about a self-righteous woman who campaigns against premarital sex until her illegitimate granddaughter appears on her doorstep. Set in a small town so few locations and can be done with a smaller budget than most period pieces.

Tony Cella

@William. That sounds cool. Is it comedic or a straight western?

William Martell

It was a joke.

Dru Holley
