Post-Production : Workflow Issue by Enrique Bartolo

Workflow Issue

Hello, is there a possible way to export a video clip into an XML format while STILL keeping an applied video effect? Here's the thing, I have the full Neat Video v2.6 pro plug in for only Sony Vegas Pro 13 and I want to add noise reduction for certain clips and transfer them to Davinci Resolve 12 Lite without losing any quality. I know Neat Video decreases quality a tiny bit but I'm willing to accept that. So are there any other kind of codecs/formats that I can export/render my clips for a safe transfer to Davinci from Vegas? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Also here is are specifications of what I'm using to do my video work. EQUIPMENT Sony a7 35mm Anamorphic lens Alienware Laptop 15 r2 SOFTWARE Windows 10 64bit Nvidia Gefore GTX 970m 16gb RAM Intel Core i7-6700HQ And here's a preview video I'm working on that I'm trying to use Neat Video on. It's not very grainy but removing a slight bit would be great at least. https://vimeo.com/143507512

Hi Enrique, If the plugin is specific to Sony Vegas it won't transfer to Resolve. What I would do is send the XML over to Resolve so you are grading the highest quality original media. After grading your edit, deliver as individual clips. There is an option in the export settings to add handles to the clips, I would add at least a second for fine tuning the edit if needed. After rendering the graded clips, send an XML from Resolve back to Sony Vegas. You'll get a second timeline with your color grade applied. Then you can go and select the clips you want to apply the noise reduction to.

Thanks Andy! I will try your workflow method since it appears to make the most sense. Now I just need to find out which codec is the best to render my video project in Vegas. The only reason I wanted to finish everything off in resolve is because it allowed me to export in H.264, which is pretty cool since I heard H.264 is not licensed for Windows haha. Anyhow, I've heard downloading the free Avid Codecs from Avids website will be my best settings for rendering in Vegas. Thanks again man.

Check out MPEG Streamclip. It's a free video player and converter that will do h264.

Andy Matthias, sorry I don't mean to be a bother but how exactly do I send rendered clips from Resolve back to Vegas? I couldn't find an option to render any clips in XML in Resolve thats supportive for Vegas. I only found one that's for Final Cut Pro and Avid. Please explain to me in steps if you can. Thank you so much.

In the delivery workspace, render the clips as individual source files. Then back in the Edit workspace you can do a file export XML. That XML when imported into Vegas should link to the new graded clips you just rendered.

Thank you so much Andy it worked! On resolve I rendered my clips on H.264. Do you think transferring my clips through an XML format with an H.264 source could degrade the quality? Either way thanks man that helped a lot!
