Looking for suggestions on how to create a college tour

Hi, folks. I am remounting my play, That Color Blind Kind of Love, with the end goal of creating a tour of colleges/universities across the mid-Atlantic region. That Color Blind Kind of Love takes audiences on a ride in and out of the past to the present in search of the true meaning of love, tolerance and diversity. The premise: Is love truly color blind in this so-called Post-race era of the nation’s first black president? This is a one act play loosely based off the story of Richard & Mildred Loving (The Lovings vs. State of Virginia 1967 miscegenation case). We are hosting a workshop April 15-17 at the Anacostia Playhouse Theatre in D.C. to consider reworking the piece or not. I need direction/support/dear God what I am I crazy? help in putting together this tour. I have a few schools in mind to submit the package to. Any thoughts? The play has been performed as a staged reading for The Kennedy Center's annual Page to the Stage Reading Series (and got a good review in the paper) and was submitted for a Guggenheim Fellowship (made it to end! whoo hoo!).

This is admittedly not my area of expertise. In my experience, you'll need a stronger track record for a college to commit activities/academic funds to bring your show to campus. Once you're beyond the staged reading phase, you'll be in a stronger position. Or if you can attach a notable director, who can provide an educational experience for the students, that will help make your case. For example, my alma mater Duke brought Broadway director Tina Landau (https://www.steppenwolf.org/ensemble/members/details.aspx?id=39) and her musical director/composer Ricky Ian Gordon (http://rickyiangordon.com/bio.php) to campus to workshop a new play on campus. It was a prestige move and a clear educational experience for students.

Thank you for responding, Regina. The play has been performed in a few festivals. I did not mention it as perhaps I should have. But I my goal with the workshop as I said is to see if the piece needs reworking. You make a valid point, nonetheless. I will look into getting a name attached to it.
