Filmmaking / Directing : Is it okay to premiere outside of a festival? by Chris London

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right board, I didn't see one specifically for festivals. I recently directed my first short, it's all finished and we've been submitting to festivals; we wanted to hold a premiere in the city in May, something we can have our friends and family come to as well as invite agents, press, and the like. However, I also know that a lot of festivals want exclusivity; would a festival be upset if we held a one-time theatrical screening and reject us based on that?
