Screenwriting : Why We Write.... by Kassandra Heit

Most writers I know write because they have to. I don't have any deep or profound reasons other than I am not a nice person to be around if I don't write.

To entertain the reader.

I wrote my first screenplay because I couldn't write a novel to save my life. I continued to write them because someone told me I had zero talent and would never make any money writing screenplays and I wanted to prove him wrong. Not a very noble reason I know but that's how I got started and continued writing screenplays.

I think I do it for the satisfaction of have completed something, but I definitely don't do it for the fun of writing. I hate writing. :)

There are so many aspects to love about writing. I enjoy the ability to tell a story, no matter how simple or complex, about whoever or whatever my imagination can create. It's also an interesting medium with which to teach a lesson or send a message to the world.
