Anything Goes : Time travel movies by Kevin Bradshaw

I looked it up on IMDB, and I got interested in it. It's in my Vudu 'wishlist' to rent in the next week or so.

Ya, some friend mine recommended it to me last week, I checked it out and didn't quite know what to make of it so I wanted other people's opinions on it.

Watched it last night on Netflix. Mildly interesting, and when it's super low budget I'm forgiving. To much 'technical' speak in the beginning, and it took me a bit to understand how things worked and what they had to do. A simple rewrite could've fixed several points that were complex to make them understandable. What's your take, Kevin?

I appreciate the fact that the filmmaker managed to make a nice looking picture on such a low budget. I'm like you Lindburgh, I thought it needed to be rewritten. Time travel plots in movies are so tricky because it's so easy to get yourself in a mess with logic and ' your past meeting your present self' that I wouldn't attempt to make one at this stage in my career as a screenwriter. My friend recommended the movie to me because it surprised him like no movie has recently including a thriller I made. But my thinking is if the plot twist in the movie doesn't make any sense, then why bother using it regardless if it is a genuine surprise. What's your thoughts on that?

One of the problems with time travel stories is the travelers don't change time as we know it. They're usually there to do fix things to ensure time happens as it should (yes, there are exceptions - 'Back to the Future'). Plot twists, and to your point, should make sense, and as you mentioned be a genuine surprise. In Primer it didn't work. In Fight Club it didn't work. In Planet of the Apes it didn't work. Great examples of plot twists working are The 6th, Sense and the many from The Twilight Zone (original series).

Hey Lindbergh, sorry about the delay in the reply. I am in the process of moving to the Los Angeles area, do you know of any opportunities or places for directors to look out for there? Another good time travel movie I saw just this weekend is Peggy Sue Getting Married. I would put that up there with Back to the Future.
