Screenwriting : Question about submitting a sample by Kyle Climans

Question about submitting a sample

Just to clarify, when someone asks for a sample of your work but doesn't specify the size of said sample which they want, how many pages would be an acceptable amount? I assume it shouldn't be an entire script, but to take out a random scene or two from a script without much context seems odd to me.

TJ Jones

A sample of a script would be up to the inciting incident.

Justin Kwon

Well, from my own (albeit limited) experience, whenever a studio or company requested a sample for any of my feature scripts, they always asked for the first 10 - 15 pages. Because let's face it, if a script doesn't grab our attention within the first 5 pages, chances are an agent or producer will toss is aside for a better read.

Danny Manus

depends on the context of the request, but if a producer asks for a writing sample, they want a whole script. they may stop reading after 15 pgs, but give them the option of reading the whole thing.

Dan Guardino

I agree with Danny.

Kyle Climans

Thank you!

Anthony Cawood

I send a full script in appropriate genre.

William Martell

Whole script.

Maybe a sample cup with a lid, too.

Sylvia Marie Llewellyn

@Kyle... Yes, I agree... full script...
