Screenwriting : Thank you Stage 32 Writers by Rhiannon "Nikki" McFarling

Thank you Stage 32 Writers

I had started to read through the lounge posts to find places to pitch my sitcom. I signed up to do a pitch with Happy Writers Pitch next Saturday. I then continued my research and found another posting where someone suggested checking out VirtualPitchFest.com and I took the plunge. In less than 4 hours after submitting my first query letter, I received a request to read my script! Still waiting on more responses plus I'm even more excited to do my phone pitch through Stage 32. Surrounding myself in positive energy.

Dan Guardino

That is fantastic news. I wish you luck!!!!

Travis Sharp

Great for you!! Good luck.

Quick question: I get the structure of a query letter but how do you create one? Can I type it on Word and save as a pdf? (Anything outside of screenwriting software gives me a headache)

Vladislav Nogin

Congrats!

Travis, VirtualPitchFest.com actually has samples of letters. I then tweaked it and made it personal.

Jody Ellis

Good for you!!! That's awesome

Travis Sharp

Yes, I saw the samples and I'm cool with that. I literally mean can I type it as a document on Word, save as a pdf and then send that. I'm always cool with creative stuff and blatantly stupid with simple technical details.

I've had great luck with VP. My last 5 pitches through them generated 4 read requests. One thing I do recommend is research the agencies and execs before you pitch (i always look them up, see what their title is, what movies they've done, etc) in addition to paying close attention to what they say they are looking for. If they say they want rom-coms, don't pitch them a thriller. I've also had better overall luck with producers as opposed to agents or managers. Producers seem more open to pitches and are always looking for something new.

Rhiannon: Good luck. Were your folks Fleetwood Mac fans?

Rhiannon "Nikki" McFarling

My dad is a Fleetwood Mac fan

Bebe Tarantino

Congratulations please let us know how it goes! Good luck!
