Screenwriting : What draft do you start submitting to contests or producers? by Robert Rosenbaum

Robert Rosenbaum

What draft do you start submitting to contests or producers?

I am halfway through a polish draft of my newest screenplay THE WICK INN. I am aiming to have it finished by Wednesday to submit to the Page Awards. While I would prefer to submit a second or even third draft, the deadline is May 17 and this is the draft that's ready. At what point do you start submitting to contests?

Dan MaxXx

can't put quota number of drafts before submitting. Just do your best, get feedback from folks you trust and respect, rewrite, polish and submit.

Page Contest is pricey. $129 fee with notes. Geez.

Anthony Cawood

There's no right or wrong answer here, I guess it's more about when you feel it is ready and no additional re-writes or polishes will actually improve the script... if you aren't there yet, maybe next year's Page is a better idea.

James Chalker

One thing you can count on: there's always another contest.

Chad Stroman

Have you had anyone put another set of eyes on it first? Might be worth having someone or two read it over first.

Myron DeBose

To draft or not to draft

Robert Rosenbaum

I know I'm pushing it. I thought I would use it for feedback (and to incentive to get it done.)

Dan - all script services these days are pricey!

Anyway, it's a fantasy/comedy/horror, not the stuff that usually does well in big contests.

Robert Rosenbaum

I would certainly be appreciative if anyone here wanted to lay a pair of eyes on it and give me comments. And, of course, I'd be willing to return the favor!

Eric Christopherson

I enter a contest when I'm manic enough about the script to think I can win. Or when I don't think I can win but I want the judges' notes.

Raymond J. Negron

Hey Robert, connect with me and send it my way as well mi amigo.

Jenny Masterton

The eventual final draft that is good. I won't put a number on it.

Robert Rosenbaum

Thank you everyone who has offered to read my script. I am working quick as I can to finish this draft and will get it out to you all very soon!
