Screenwriting : Experience with The Blacklist? by Sarah J. Eagen

Experience with The Blacklist?

Does anyone have experience hosting a script on The Blacklist? One of my pilots just scored in the top 5% and I'm trying to make sure I make the most of the great review it received. Does anyone have experience with that? The review repeated several times that it is a network-ready pilot, and I even have a producer interested in packaging it and pitching it to networks, but I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can be with this piece of good press. Any advice is very welcome :) Thanks!

A feature film of mine scored in the top 5%. The Blacklist then offered 4 free reviews. Which ended up not being as high...so be careful about accepting that offer. Reviews vary widely, and you might get more reads on one high score. But, feel free to quote the review wherever it will help!

Thanks, Lyralen! Great advice :)

Use the BL hype, sign with a TV agent, have the Agent send out as spec samples for a TV staff job. That would be my plan. I don't know of a single BL script that is currently on primetime network.

"Network ready"- what does that mean in real world? Are you network ready to write 70hrs a week for 30 weeks, work with network exes and lead a seasoned TV staff?

Congrats on the review. Speak to rookie creators and their reps. Mickey Fisher, Issa Rae. They had 0 TV experience and somehow didn't get fire off their own pilots.

Shondaland is seeking TV Writers.

Great, Dan. And Sarah, check out the BL contests. I think they have one for female tv writers.

Thanks Dan! And yes, I am ready to work as a network writer, and I was glad to hear that reflected in someone's review of one of my pilots. I actually used the pilot to opt into the female writers fellowship, and the awesome review was just a bonus.

Two of my pilots are in the beginning stages of being packaged with some name talent and then I'll be pitching them to networks and studios. Jus trying to do everything I can to use this bit of momentum!

Good for you!
