I just watched Martin Ritt's brilliant film Hud. No, it's not about the department of Housing and Urban Development. It's a revisionist western written by the husband and wife writing team of Harriet Frank and Irving Ravetch, who collaborated with director Martin Ritt to make some memorable films including Long Hot Summer, Norma Rae and Stanley and Iris. Hud has smart dialogue and very gritty, realistic storyline. I've attached a link with a great interview about their background and process.

I love Paul Newman's work! :-)
I'll have to see this film.
Frankie: I think it holds up nicely.
Lol till you see lil housing development creeping up in the wild behind the scenes hehehe :D :D
Pretty good film, Phil. It really pulled together well in the second half and had a strong universal theme - things die quicker than they take to grow. Cool that it was in black and white too, not that common for 60's films. Nice share.
It's a terrific film about a pretty lousy human being that would be hard to make these days. Hell, it was probably hard to get made back in those days as well. Newman is tremendous in the title role.

Frankie: Glad you liked it. If you haven't seen it, check out Martin Ritt's Hombre, also starring Paul Newman. Another great film written by the writers of Hud.
Eric: Agreed.
Haven't seen that one as well. Will check it out.
And she is 100 years old......may the heavens continue to bless Harriet Frank!
