Stage and screen star Sir Ian McKellen (pictured with House of Cards star Kevin Spacey) has spoken out about the sex scandal in film and theatre, claiming women are partly responsible.
A woman might say "If I want to sell my body for a role, SO WHAT? It's my choice". Can we blame men for propositioning sex from women for a role? Any thoughts?
Justin Lim: Since time began, people in authority have propositioned employees, those lower on the social ladder, etc. for SEX. When your boss is Matt Lauer and you work for NBC and you want to say "no," it's not the same as a restaurant patron asking his waitress for sex -- where it's easier for her to summon a manager, say "no" and not fear she'll be fired, she'll never work again, etc. There was a culture of fear in Hollywood and actresses who said "no" [Ashley Judd, Mira Sorvino, etc.] often found their careers in tatters. That is called "retaliation," which is another form of abuse.
