Screenwriting : Found a deal on Final Draft. by Chad Stroman

Chad Stroman

Found a deal on Final Draft.

I use a different software but to those who have wanted Final Draft, I found the following deal that just popped up today for Final Draft 10 for $129 for the full version. Sounds legit but if anyone can confirm that stacksocial is legitimate, that'd be great.

Anthony Moore

Looks like the deal is legit. I found the same deal on a website I read regularly.

Are you upgrading from another version? My final draft 9 crashed today. I could open my screenplay, but it was frozen. I couldn't work on it, so I went to tech support. Now there's a bigger problem I can't even open it up. It has an error and he said it must be windows. I went to windows support and they can't even fix it. They said it's Windows 10. So, here I am stuck to fix it myself. The only thing I'm doing is reinstalling windows 10 to see if that solves the problem. Sometimes I wonder if they don't screw it up, so you have to upgrade to another version like FD10. I'm not upgrading. I think I'll get the free Celtx and rewrite all my screenplays on it. Another thing that went awry today is my adobe reader. I can't attach my PDF files to my emails. Besides that my iPad tablet froze and I went on apple to get it working again. I fixed it by downloading iTunes of all things to get it going again. It's kind of weird to get a program in my computer to unfreeze the tablet. I'm telling you this technology is going too fast for me. Today was a wasted day. No writing for me! I hope your venture into FD 10 goes well for you.

Dan Guardino

I use final draft 9 on windows 10. You might want to try reinstalling it if you haven't already.

Claude Gagne

Yes we did. I had the FD support tech do it and same thing showed up. It's aggravating. I even went into Microsoft (Windows 10) support same thing. The error cdintf400.dll says to try reinstalling may help. Nothing. I'll contact FD support again today. This is crazy.

David E. Gates

Do you know someone who has FD that can try and open the file for you? This will ascertain if it's the software or the file that is at fault.

Ian White

I used to use Celtx, but I received a deal for FD through the uni. I LOVE IT!!! No going back now!

Sandrene Mathews

Thanks for posting this! I've been using, and loving, WriterDuet, but recently their Final Draft exports haven't matched the latest version of FD so I can't use it in Movie Magic or Gorilla when I need to do a breakdown so it became necessary to get FD, too.

Dan Guardino

Claude. Did you reinstall it from their website? I know when I tried to reinstall from my disk I had problems.

Anthony Moore

@David E. Gates - cdintf400.dll, isnt a data file. Its a system file that works with the FD program. You don't open it. It either works, doesn't work or its missing. DLLs are notorious for being easily corruptible.

If the DLL is corrupt, the best option is to uninstall FD, search for the bad file and delete it, then reinstall FD. If its missing, then a copy will have to be located and downloaded. If you have the original windows installation disc, you may be able to find it and copy it to your C:\Windows\system sub-dir. Otherwise you may have to do either a windows repair or reinstall, then resintall FD.

Phone Final Draft directly US/Canada 800-231-4055 or if from abroad as an Int'l Caller 818-995-8995 and ask them the same question. They confirm that or might give you the same deal over the phone :) - instant download!

Also, regarding uninstalling and reinstalling, using the general uninstall in Windows often won't remove DLL files, just the basic application files. So you'll need to find an application that will do a clean uninstall so those files get deleted, too. I can't think of any offhand since I haven't had a personal Windows machine in awhile so I'm not sure what's reputable, but many of them are free or have a trial period.

Or if you have someone who knows about file systems that can help you, you can do a manual uninstall of the residual files.

Sam Borowski

I'm a Final Draft Brand Ambassador. Let me check. They brought me on the team four years back or so. They employ a lot of working screenwriters. Let me see what kind of a deal I can get. I know they have a great deal for students of any kind. Might take me a day, but I will drop an email to see what I can do for you.

Claude Gagne

I'm back. I did contact FD tech again by email. They requested a whole bunch of info and I sent it to them yesterday. Nothing received today. Thanks everyone. Sam thanks for that. Ps. FD helped me over the phone and we did an uninstall and install. It didn't work, so he said it was Windows. I reinstalled windows so it can't be it. It'll all come out in the wash, so to speak.

Claude Gagne

Hallelujah! My Final Draft is back in business. It took several attempts with the instructions from the Final Draft tech, but all in all it popped open and it works. What I'll do is go over my comedy drama again and see if I can't post it here. The adobe isn't working well and I need to concentrate on that now. Can I post a link where it says screenplay in the logline section? It seems that's all I can muster with the PDF reader so far.

Microsoft Tech Support wanted $149.00 to join their team to help me with this problem. Like holy-smokes, I could be buying the Final Draft 10 with that money. Take care everyone.

Glen Bradley

FD is amazing, I can't believe anyone else uses anything but.
