Introduce Yourself : Hello again, hello... by Wendy Jones

Wendy Jones

Hello again, hello...

I've been writing novels until recently, but am now focused entirely on screenplays and really enjoying it. I feel far more at home and am pleased to find a place like this in an otherwise solitary job. I'm currently working on a (hopefully) tense drama - a difficult sell, I know - and continuing to learn my craft.

Katherine Blessan

Sounds like you're in a similar place to me, Wendy. I'm also a novelist but moving more into screenwriting. Have you tried writing any of your own novels as scripts? I did it and am still working on that now (5th draft in!).

Wendy Jones

I did that for my first attempt, because I thought it would take the pressure off already knowing the story. Turned out the story was the weak point. LOL. I'm so much better at writing since I've been studying this. The one I'm working on now is a section of an unpublished novel I've changed for screen. Fingers crossed.

Katherine Blessan

It's harder than it seems to adapt your own work, isn't it? My screenplay now looks very different to my novel and I'm sure it will look even more different as time goes on. The essential story is the same though, at least for me

Wendy Jones

Yes, I had to change the motivations and backstory for both the leads, but the actual story was the same. Really interesting to do.

Hi, I'm retired and living in Thailand, I have had time to write 3 books, and now I've just finished transplanting 2 of them into screenplays. One's a London gangster movie, and the other's about SAS trained volunteers going to Africa to kill elephant poachers. I can see how hard it is, and how much time you have to put into trying to sell a movie script, so I'm just going to post my stuff in Profile and loglines and get on with the thing I like doing and that is writing. But as a hobby this is a good way to met all you nice artistic people. Good luck with your projects.

Wendy Jones

It seems such a different technique novels to screenwriting. I looked into radio writing the other day. Haven't even thought about stage.

Hi Wendy, would you be open to share your drama with me? I love reading others' works and sharing opinions, and would be happy to share with you a dramedy I'm currently working on.
