Papa Grows Funk was a popular funk band in New Orleans that has gotten millions of plays on Spotify. Josh Freund and Sam Radutzky decided to make a documentary about them when the band announced they were going on indefinite hiatus back in 2013.
The filmmakers used their connections to the music community in New Orleans to tell the story of the band in context of the city's musical traditions. I had the opportunity to interview the filmmakers on my podcast.
