WLE- Small world. I also saw Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece in large format. It was a Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan. One of the greatest SPACE movies. Right out of the box you hit one. Prima!!!
When they played Thus Spake Zarathustra for the opening eclipse title sequence, the symphony got a standing ovation. I walked out whistling Blue Danube
Though not a film, but a TV series, my favorite is Stargate SG-1(there were Stargate feature films though which I also liked a lot. I am very sad they discontinued it.. :(
This is so much more fun than laboring through the conflict and controversy over on the SCREENWRITING thread. I mean we all want to learn our CRAFT. But what is life without a little whimsy. And besides this is fun not work. When I want to work I'll open my CELTX program and work on my scripts.

I'm going to agree with 2001. However, let me name a recent one that I just loved: Arrival.
Not technically set in space but I think it still fits the description.

Awesome James! May the Schwartz (or da Schvitz) be with You... (Mel Brooks: It's good to be the King)
James: A big fan of Mel. He grew up in Williamsburg. I grew up in Canarsie. Both us Brooklyn Boys!!
I'm a big Star Trek fan but Forbidden Planet is probably my favorite of all time.
Sean- Classic 50's Space movie. I believe a very famous British Actor was the lead. Good choice!!
Brian- One of the best usage of classical music for a space movie. Kubrick pure genius.
