Screenwriting : Script request by Krista Crawford

Script request

I recently got a script request through Virtual Pitchfest and while I've gotten a few before, I wanted to change up my email that I send containing the script. I recently completed the 8 week writer's lab with Spencer Robinson (which was awesome!) and he loved my script, great read, great writing and said I was ready to start looking for management. I'd like to include that somehow, that the script received excellent feedback from Spencer. My question is, since the script request came from a management company, do I mention I got good feedback from a different management company? Is that appropriate? My usual email is basically a "Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my script with you, I hope you like it, etc." Is there a better way to be writing the email when sending out the script? Any thoughts or suggestions would be extremely helpful!

Isn't Spencer a manager himself? ask him for a referral.

Congratulations on the script request, Krista! My two cents... I would not mention what some other management company said or other feedback. They asked for it for their own reasons and will form their own opinion. Plus they may think, well, if they liked it so much then why are they not taking you on? Anyway, I would suggest keeping it to the point, give them exactly what they requested when they want it, and be professional (of course!). ;)

Here's an article that may be helpful, lots of nuggets of advice on submissions and/or requests: https://www.scriptmag.com/features/submissions-insanity-10-submissions-c.... Hope it helps some! ;)

Beth, that's what I thought as well. I just wasn't sure if I should mention it got good feedback. Thanks!

Dan, it was my first lab so I wasn't sure on what the protocol was as far as what I could ask him to do. He spoke about getting another script under my belt before anything else with him.

You're welcome, Krista! Dan M's comment is a good suggestion too. Perhaps Spencer would give you a referral. Never hurts to ask. ;) Good luck!

I agree with Beth. You could mention this in a conversation afterwards, but I'd avoid to introduce this subject in my initial contact. And Dan’s suggestion makes total sense.

Dan Guardino

I agree with Beth. Nobody cares what someone else said about your screenplay or your writing. If it really is that good then I would try to get an agent to rep you.
