Anything Goes : Cannes 2019 by Daniel Lyddon

Cannes 2019

It's that time of year again - when I start pricing up going to Cannes in May. Who's going from the Stage 32 community? When are you going and what are your aims for this year's Marche du Film?

I've had a look at costings and if I do go this year, I'll be going during the first week and weekend so I'll be missing this year's Short Film Corner (unless I can grab a spare few hours on the Monday before I leave) and Doc Day, which is a shame, but I'm looking forward to reconnecting with existing contacts and making new connections.

My big concern this year is Brexit, and how it'll affect my company as a Wales-based production outfit looking outward from UK when it comes to projects. I can see financing being affected for sure, although who knows what sort of knock-on effect it might have on sales?

I've still yet to make the decision on whether or not to go...but I'm leaning towards going at the moment. What are everyone else's thoughts/concerns/plans for Cannes this May?

Harriet Miller Indeed! It was a hot topic last year - I imagine this year it'll be the same... :-/

Well, looks like Brexit's off the table for a while... :)
