Screenwriting : American Beauty and Groundhog's Day's scripts as a teaching tool. by Annie Mac

American Beauty and Groundhog's Day's scripts as a teaching tool.

I wonder if other writers have been inspired by any of those two films, and in what way?

Viktor Stanoev

Inspired no, but American Beauty is so well written, I think that they shoot it right away without any corrections. Just masterpiece. It's perfect for education purposes.

Annie Mac

Thanks Viktor. What kind of screenplays do you write?

Eric Christopherson

I've seen both films, and I can hardly remember American Beauty whereas Groundhog Day is still quite vivid in my mind. I'm not sure whether that says something about the films or me.

Annie Mac

About both, maybe?

Frankie Gaddo

Not so much. I find them to both be distinct works. That said, I think there are much better scripts to look at to learn from.

Viktor Stanoev

Annie Mac I am interested in thriller and romance. What about you?

Danny Manus

2 of the best ever. American Beauty is a masterclass

Adam Harper

Did I read right that a lot of the American Beauty script was being changed as they were filming? I know it went through many re-writes and elements of the story changed dramatically. Either way, great script script and film.

Phil Clarke

Had the pleasure of chatting to Danny Rubin quite a bit some time ago. He's as inspiring as his script.

Annie Mac

Like what, Frankie?

Annie Mac

Viktor, I love romance, humanistic dramas and witty comedies.

Frankie Gaddo

Annie - The scripts I'd say I've learned the most from are The Graduate, Sunset Boulevard, Toy Story, Gladiator, Casablanca. There are others too, but I think these are the ones worth mentioning.

Annie Mac

I agree, Frankie

Those are also movie scripts I used over and over again with my film students
