Screenwriter

Hi there i'm a screenwriter and a director leaving between Uganda and South Africa and i'm interested in writing great African stories and showing young African screenwriters that they can come up with great African stories if they think beyond their home steads i'enjoy reading and watching African stories like last king of Scotland, Lion King, Black panther, Invitcus etc

Remie - it's so great to have you here. We have a great community in Uganda and South Africa and I'm glad you've introduced yourself. Out of curiosity, what type of education for film & TV do you think is lacking between the 2 countries you are based in?

John Serugo

Nice to meet someone from Uganda. Not a big movie industry here, but we shall change that. We have local music, we can have movies based on stories from here. And not just true stories but good fiction stories. I write sci fi adventure myself. The other day I went to a local bookstore and looked in the Ugandan authors section, didn't see many fiction books there.

Good question Amanda Toney but i'think apart from the formal education which i'guess the two countries have towards the film industry i'think they lack passion, confidence and careers guidance towards the film and tv industry for instance screenwriters in Uganda they're abit lazy to take advantage of the events that have been happening in the country for the last 50years unlike Q.Tarantino and F. Coppola who have been able to take advantage the events in the U.S.

John Serugo nice to meet you brother yes Uganda it's a tiny movie industry but i'think the only reason why it has maintained its size it's because the writers are too scared to let their minds go far into the interstellar which i'think it's only way to get great ideas to write about. writing stories about our home steads it's not a bad thing but it limits the industry like in Nigeria there was a time when the Nigerian movie industry rocked Africa but because the stories never went beyond gates of the houses eventually the industry got stuck
