I'm writing my script, right...and I'm writing my character into some trouble ahead, but while doing so, I'm also trying to tell my character not to do it because I know where that path leads.
It's kind of crazy when you think about it, yea? You're the one writing their path into chaos, yet you get emotional when you see them following the said path you're carrying them down.
Have you ever felt like this over any of your characters?

Yeah. I have one character I’ve taken everything away from. While writing about his losses, I felt like a sadist. But it served the story, so I marched forward.

You are emotional about what you have put upon your characters, and its a good thing. You created empathy for them. If you do it right so will the audience.

Miss, Mr Vaughan. I didn't do the crime, I'm not doing the time! ;-)

To quote Craig Mazin the creator of Chernobyl “you’re not the New Testament god that is kind and loving, you are the Old Testament god that punished Job to prove a point”.
