Screenwriting : What should I know before submitting something to script services? by Andrew Heard

What should I know before submitting something to script services?

Hi everyone,

So, I'm thinking of submitting a script of mine to one of the script services, First 10 Pages specifically, and it's the first time I'm planning to do it.

What do you wish you'd known before doing so?

I'm familiar with getting script feedback as I've gotten it from local writing groups and I've talked with people who have received feedback from services other than Stage32.

The questions I have are more related to specific things that Stage32 needs. Do the people who give feedback get the script directly from your profile? Or can you upload the script directly to a shared space if you have a newer version than the one that's on the platform?

I'm happy to hear other things if you want to put forward for a first timer, but those are kinda my major questions. More on the technical end of going about it.

Hi Andrew! When you submit for coverage, you'll have to upload the file. That's basically it, after purchase, upload the document, and they'll get on it and send the feedback here for you :) You'll be able to track the progress to see where the process has reached.

Imo Wimana Chadband Thank you very much. And when I upload the file, is it the full script or just the first 10 pages? I know they say that if they decide the first 10 pages are worth it, they'll read more of it but in terms of uploading it, I assume that I should upload the complete piece?

Additionally, I assume it must include the title page with my contact information on it?

Make sure you know something about the person. Anyone and take a script and try to force it through some template. Make sure they know what they are talking about. How Yu do that is hard. They’ll all say they have NDA.

You're welcome Andrew Heard Yes it would the full script being uploaded. In terms of the information on the script, the title page and your name should be enough. Contact and things like that aren't necessary, you can put it if you'd like though, but it doesn't add nor subtract anything. If they'd like to further talk with you after reading, stage32 will set up everything and have you and the reader connect, as far as I'm aware.

Craig D Griffiths Isn't that part of the process of choosing someone to get feedback on? Choosing someone who has similar work to the intended market of the script you've written?

Craig D Griffiths

Andrew Heard I am hesitant to go to anyone that isn’t a writer or a member of my intended audience.

You see comments all over this forum, “I was working for someone, I can’t say who...”. I am just saying that if every script consultant jumped up and down at the same time the resulting earth quake would flatten LA.

There is no qualifications or standard. Which is always an issue.

Andrew Heard I also had another thought. Consumer Protection Agencies (whatever they are called locally), tell people that have been victims of conmen, these people are professional in convincing people.
