Screenwriting : What now? by Mark Apostolou

What now?

Hi all,

So I currently have three projects being 'shown' around by my agent and that requires a lot waiting around, feeling like I can be doing more. I've started to consider the option of making flashy show decks to further entice interest as well as reaching out to contacts myself.

At the same time, I'm not sure If I should just leave this to my agent but sometimes I get the urge to push things.

Anyone in the same/similar boat?

Stephen Floyd

I’m willing to bet your agent would not appreciate you helping them do their job. If I were in your shoes, I’d get cracking on my next screenplay. I'm sure the wait must be driving you nuts, but this process naturally takes a while so don't sweat it.

Mark Apostolou

Fair point. Though I am finding the act of repackaging one of the shows into a brochure style helps me to open up the scope of the project. But yeah, stepping on my agent's toes is not the intention for sure.

Craig D Griffiths

Ask your agent. If they have you on a back burner, this may prompt them into action.

Google yourself. What do you look like to the outside world. Would improving that help your agent?

What about working on more material? Do you have stuff to write?

William Martell

Write some more screenplays.

CJ Walley

Pitch decks are very fashionable at the moment and a bit out of control. I know people who are throwing good money after bad at them. Sounds like you could do with a meeting with your agent to talk about your concerns rather than just writing and ignoring them.

Dan Guardino

CJ The other day I posted two Pitch Decks for TAPESTRY and WEB OF DECEPTION that I co-wrote with Judy Norton on your Script Revolution site hoping someone will see them.

Dan Guardino

Mark. Had that same situation and my agent had no problem as long as I told them she repped me. If people know that upfront they will usually tell you to go ahead and have your agent submit the screenplay. She also advised me to try and see if I could get a director attached to a couple of my screenplays. But check with your agent first before you do anything because it is not easy to get another agent.

MC Sundeen

I'd love to see a pitch deck example if anyone's game to show me one. This is new info to me. thanks!

CJ Walley

MC, I've got a real fancy one I can email to you. Not mine.

Bobby E. Erickson (BobbyE)

Hey CJ, would you be willing to share that pitch deck with me as well? Thanks in advance for considering this. Respectfully...

Shawn Speake

Me too, CJ! Can I get a look. theshawnspeake@gmail.com

Dan Guardino

MC . I got two if want to see them PM me your email.

Phil Parker

Pitch-deck formats are different for features, TV, and animation. Ask Google (and your agent) before you start :)

Shawn Speake

Thanks Phil Parker

Dan Guardino

Like I said I have two I am producing with Judy Norton if anyone wants to see them let me know. I wish there was a spot here and on script revolution where I can post them.

Keep writing!

Thanks all. In terms of pitch decks, you can check out the original pitch bible brochure doc that was made for Stranger Things as an example of a really good one. http://www.zen134237.zen.co.uk/Stranger_Things/Stranger_Things_-_Bible.pdf

Basically just a good way of better getting your show concept across with the aid of strong visual elements.

Dan MaxXx

Attach Talent in front & behind camera. The pitch deck is useless if you can't execute what you say you can.

"Stranger Things" creators had a theatrical movie under their belt and worked for M Night Shayamalan's TV show.

Jason Mirch

Definitely start writing something new! See if you can get something else going. And in the meantime start connecting with as many other filmmakers as you can.
