Time Management

Hey. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Man, was this week a trying one. Started a new job, and the change in hours threw me all the way off. But, I took the first week as data, and should have enough to make the adjustments. I've been doing some research for my new script this weekend, and got some good work in on it, so I'm feeling good about that. It's going to take some serious time management from now on, but, I've got to stay dedicated and do what I've got to do.

What are some time management techniques you use, or how do you deal with not becoming burnt out and refueling?

Stephen Floyd

I’ve learned there’s a big difference between spending time by myself and spending time on myself. Simply taking it easy isn’t always enough, so be sure the time you dedicate to recharging actually fulfills you. I also found myself stupendously fortunate for the last month or so at work because it’s been really slow and I’m able to spend nearly half my shift writing. That ends next month, but boy am I exploiting this opportunity while I can.

IPad and Phone (or even pen and paper) so I can write when I have more than 3 minutes free. You have to train yourself to get into the mode quicker.

Eric Christopherson

A twenty minute nap before a writing session works for me, even if it's in the evening. (More than thirty and I get groggy instead of rejuvenated.)

Hi Imo,

At a specific point in my life the line shifted from being creatively most-productive at night to being creatively most-productive in the day. Recognizing that - and reconciling and adjusting how I manage my life's endeavors - became a bit more essential to everyday living and everyday production. And everyday happiness, too.

It also coincides with the phrase "how do I fit ten pounds of stuff in a five-pound box?" I don't, and I do the best that I can, given how busy my everyday life is - with balances and re-charges as necessary. I've also taken breaks from creative writing as necessary, too.

Best fortunes in your creative endeavors, Imo!

Thanks a lot for the guidance and advice guys, really appreciated. I'm really just trying to find that balance now with everything I'm pursuing writing wise while maintaining a 9-5. I have one thing going for me though, I guess, my body has been doing late nights for years and a bit accustom to having less hours sleep, so I can still function to an extent if I cut back sleep, but it takes a toll a lot quicker. Right now, I'm just willing it through and reminding myself why I've got to push when i just want to lay in bed and sleep.

Through fiverr I write music and poetry for people as well, plus managing my social media pages for my poetry and everything around that I want to develop (merch, website, etc.). Trying to put the work in and create my brand as a writer so it helps add to my screenwriting, you know. Some nights I just go straight through and go to work the next day.

I'm getting better. Adjusting. It's tough, but I'm not giving in. The passion for the craft and this path is keeping me going. Have to keep going. I love this!
