Acting : Actor in search of fellowship! by Landon Belmore

Actor in search of fellowship!

Hello, fellow artists! I’m new to the L.A. area and could use some guidance. How I can meet with agents and get a reel? All of my experience has been from theater work and classes but I’m trying to break into the film industry. If anyone is like me and could use a scene partner or has a scene they want to actualize perhaps we could find a way to support each other and accomplish those goals.

Kimberlie Failoni

Til you have a reel, my acting coach's recommendation is work through and film some contrasting monologues so you have some selections of acting on film to send out. Break a leg out there!

You’ve been really helpful, thank you so much! If you know of any good acting coaches in the L.A. area I’d love some recommendations. Wish you luck with everything!

You know what, I think I might. Let me do some digging and I'll get back to you tomorrow! Wishing you luck as well!! My coach is up in Portland and Hawaii, but he may be branching out to LA and I know he does Skype. I'll message you.

Wow you rock, thank you!

audition for anything and everything where you get copy! Look for great roles that speak to your brand! Having at least ONE piece of great footage can give you something to PITCH to agents.

Thank you for the feedback! If ever any projects your working on could use a motivated actor, I’m keen to make connections in LA now that I finally made it out here.

You can create a slant/personality video and, like others have said, video a monologue that shows your range, strengths and talent. Also, volunteer at film schools for shorts. Good luck

Thank you everyone, for the awesome suggestions and just being supportive. This is such a fun and uplifting community and helps me to feel more comfortable making this leap of faith. I’ll definitely check out the website and work on a couple more monologues for the filming.

I would recommend listening to the podcast Audrey Helps Actors. She really gets into the nuts and bolts of working in LA. It’s really focused on the business side of things, but I wish her podcast existed when I first moved here. It would have saved me a ton of time and energy and anxiety. She gets into everything you’ve asked about here.

Love podcasts, it’s all I practically do with any free time I have, thanks for the heads up! If there are any other media sources you think could be useful I’d appreciate it as well. Hope your having fun, here in the city!

Thank you Tasha, I’m currently signed on and subscribed to backstage. I worked with a student film team a couple times last year through the app. Great resource!

Libraries have an excellent collection. Some have complementary facilities to record. ACX.com is good for working on audio projects.
