Hi, y'all. I'm a highly-rated, indy author of Christian fiction who has been blessed with some success. My first book sold over 50,000+ copies and it, along with the two sequels, was optioned by a small production company. That contract expired without anything being sold and I think they weren't successful because they were pitching the project as a limited TV series. I wrote a script for the first book early on but didn't really know what I was doing. Therefore, I was happy to hand-off the project. Now, though, I'm endeavoring to learn more about screenwriting AND how the movie world works. So, I'm here to dip my toe in the water, so to speak. :)
I taught screenwriting at a couple of colleges over the years. I am sure you will pick up script writing very quickly. The first thing I tell novelists is "Less is more" Many of the Steven King's top films were made from his short stories. Novels are often better suited for 8 to 10 episode series.
Paul, thanks for the insight. Yes, the production company did try to pitch all of my Defiance novels as a limited TV series. And that's so interesting what you point out about King's movies. I'll be going back over my original script and now I'll be looking at it with a "different eye." Nail Gaiman said Harlan Ellis told him, "A short story is the last chapter of the novel I didn't have to write." I find that idea fascinating!
