Introduce Yourself : Looking to tell a story by Dawn Niday

Looking to tell a story

I am not in the industry, but feel I have a compelling story to tell and I am trying to learn how to do that. In 2011, I crashed a paraglider and laid on the ground, in the dark for 2 hours waiting to be rescued. The accident, hospital stay and recovery was filled with some amazing people, friends and strangers alike, that helped me move past tremendous obstacle. It was a lot of work, but there was also a lot of fun along the way.

I have been trying to write a script, but have really struggled. I would love any help or suggestions. I am not interested in making the movie, just selling the story.

Thanks!

Hi Dawn. Cool story! There are so many books on scriptwriting! It's never ending. What I like to talk about is the path to making a career in the industry, or how to succeed in the business of film. Most writers and directors are not thinking about those things, but they are significant. Who is the audience for this story? Where would this film be seen and enjoyed? How does this story fit into the industry as a whole? Good luck with your writing! Joanne

Hi Joanne! I am sure the business side of this industry is just as important as the creative side!

I see this as a feature film. The first 4 months of my recovery were spent in Utah, California and Turkey...all visually stunning locations. I believe a story of overcoming the odds mixed in with some really amazing human relationships would have a wide audience appeal. Plus, I think it would be great to have a female adventurer portrayed on screen. Just my thought...but of course I find it interesting since it is my story :)
