Screenwriting : Busy indoors by Thom Reese

Thom Reese

Busy indoors

Hi, all! I just wanted to say, I hope everyone in the Stage 32 community is staying well and safe. As for me, I've worked two screenplays to the point where I'm feeling good enough about them to give to my beta readers and have stared another screenplay and outlined another. What are you working on?

Roxanne Paukner

Sending out some scripts and hordeganizing my basement. :)

Cannon Rosenau

Working on a comedy feature. Ahead of schedule on all spring cleaning projects and beyond. Dominating my kids at Scrabble.

T.L. Davis

I was just working on screenplays, then this documentary landed in my lap and now, I'm busy trying to put that together. There seems to be time to do three or four projects at a time.

John Ellis

Roxanne Paukner "hordeganizing"! Classic! :)

John Ellis

Rewritten a faith-based action feature, sent out - by request.

Half-hour dramedy pilot, sent out - by request.

Action webseries with producer attached - being pitched.

Hour-long sci-fi pilot - rewriting, preparing to pitch.

Continuing on fantasy novel.

Prepping (research, outlining) new faith-based action feature.

Pre-production work (I'm the AD) on a drama webseries tentatively planned for June shoot.

And all this while still working full-time.

I look at this list and I'm feeling pretty good - of course, nothing at all could come of any of the writing projects, but at least I'm writing!

Jason Mirch

Everyone here is crushing it! Really excited to hear that you are all keeping up the momentum.

John Ellis

Hey, Derek Reid - not Folgers, generic Winco pods plus my own concoction of caffeine-infused water... My wife thinks I'm addicted to caffeine...

To quote the most brilliant comedian ever, Curly: I resemble that remark.

Heidi Schussman

Finished a family script, working on a biography, finishing book #4 in a crime series, and searching for another PD book for adaptation to screenplay.

Cannon Rosenau

I put on pants today!

Geoff Hall

I’ve just uploaded my screenplay for a script consult with the Script Services on Stage 32 and after listening to a Scriptnotes Podcast with John August and Craig Mazin, I’ve ventured into the realm of the Outline, for another project, after hearing Craig talk about his 64 page epic Outline for Chernobyl. I’ve completed mine and it sits proudly alongside the screenplay. Very happy with it too.

Beyond that, as my asthma medication isn’t working properly and the new alternative meds are difficult to source, therefore I have to self-isolate, as I’m now in the high risk category and so can’t go to the shops, nor the pharmacy and my morning walk in the local park has had to be stopped.

Stay safe and healthy, everyone...

Craig D Griffiths

Cannon Rosenau too much info LOL.

Geoff Hall I am a huge Scriptnotes fan and I have asthma. My asthma has been playing up and my cough is back. Wow, doesn’t that get me some strange looks.

Thom Reese

Stay healthy, Craig.

Craig D Griffiths

Thanks Thom Reese. I am taking Sam Jackson’s advice “stay the xxxx at home”.

Geoff Hall

Craig D Griffiths Hi Craig, yes, that cough of ours does seem to spook people! So, we must be the Inhaler Twins! My Doctor enforced this don't leave home policy on me. I'm just hoping that the new meds, which is supposed to arrive today, will will ease the symptoms and stop the coughing.

I'm now getting back to two book projects and after that, I've a TV Spec series that I want to complete a two part episode of. Busy, busy, busy. I just need the projects to click with someone who knows what I'm trying to do. Stay healthy (er)!

Geoff Hall

Thanks, Nick Assunto - Stage32 Script Services How are you coping with this present madness? I'm about to buy Dino bands on the advice of my cousin, so that I can replace my morning 5k walk with something positive. Keep the faith and keep writing. Best, Geoff

Ally Shina

I've kind of turned into a screenwriting mad scientist of sorts. I'm in my PJs and robe all day, stomping around the house talking to myself, to my characters and like running to my desk to type like a crazy person whenever an idea strikes or I talk myself into the next scene. This post actually made me stop, check what I'm doing and I am laughing at myself so hard right now. I shower, and put my pjs back on now. And I won't change a thing.. I wrote such an epic action scene today after stomping around the house that I'd have to be foolish to wear clothes tomorrow. I'm writing a superhero movie and lockdown has me all kinds of little boy excited in the house. I'm busy pretending my facial moisturizer is a flying superhero action figure. It's so productive I don't even mind the judgment.

Catarina De Cèzanne

Sending some scripts out for films and TV, and making a market study for another project. However, not really sure if this is the best time to sending things out.

Geoff Hall

Hi Jason Mirch I finally made contact with Julia. Thanks for the prompt. The script has been submitted to her.

John Ellis

Catarina De Cèzanne I believe it's a great time to send things out! Producers and execs, production companies and studios are all in the mode of "when this is over, we better be ready to hit the ground running," so they're looking at lots of material. And with a lot of them housebound, they have more time than ever to look at scripts. You should go for it!

Thom Reese

All of you are amazing. Being so creative during this time. Good for you!

Geoff Hall

John Ellis Thanks for the encouragement. I have ‘gone for it’, thanks to Jason at Script Services.

Jacqueline Marchan

Can I be a beta reader for you?

Thom Reese

Thank you for the offer, Jacqueline. I'll keep you in mind going forward. Right now I have a solid group who give feedback, but I might expand the group at some point.

Craig D Griffiths

I have just uploaded the first video on writing tips to Youtube.

I have always found that when I teach others my own knowledge grows.

Richard Morell

I'm revamping a script I've been working on for five years. Starting a new script in a class I'm taking. Taking notes on a project that seems to be better served as a TV show with pilot. I consulted with a Stage 32 Exec about a play I wrote and whether it has any legs as a feature, and he gave me a direction to focus. (Really excited about that.)

Michael Mandaville

Finishing up two scripts. Outlining two projects (graphic novel & TV Bible). Post on a low budget feature that I directed and also finishing up a web series too. I got the time and the isolation to be productive!

Charles Baldwin

Finishing an outline and answering questions here.

Tom Batha

Just about to begin writing a Horror/Thriller. I have a beginning, I have an end but I felt the 2nd act would have dragged this into cliche-ville. Until yesterday. A "what if" turned me around. It'll be tricky but if I can do it, this puppy'll shine.

Joey Madia

Two novellas, two nonfiction books and rehearsing for some historical education gigs.

Pete Dowd

Focusing on revising the two features I've completed so far this year before getting back to an outline that is nearing completion.

Pete Dowd

Dash, try focusing on subplot to help carry through the second act as well as midpoint.

Bryan Bethke

I just wrote a simple four page short to sample software.

Catarina De Cèzanne

Ah me too, Bryan! Actually wrote 4 scripts 5 pages each, to be played as a video in a javascript software (an interactive short).
