I had an idea I wanted to share since it may help others. I found that if I am having trouble writing a specific scene I just need to stumble on the right music which will bring out the emotion of the scene, then visions of how the scene flood into my mind and writing it becomes easy. I think from now on part of my outlining process will be to create the soundtrack for the story where each song correlates with the emotional journey of the character. We are in a business of inspired creativity so this will be my process to do just that.

Robert, I actually DO listen to music on my computer when I'm writing a screenplay...and if a script of mine calls for this or that song, I'll click on that tune and listen to it over and over to get the feel just right.

Listening to music to get into the feeling of a scene or for a character is definitely a push for all sense of writing. Having the same way in the writing process, Robert.

I am completely the opposite. I’ll even put on head phones to cut out all noise.
Oft times a song/melody is all the creative seed necessary. I recently listened to a Three Dog Night song 'When I Die' and now I have a fairly strong short script 'Life Cycle or maybe Cycle of Life'.
I love writing through the night to classic rock.
Anything without lyrics like Jazz or Electronica as I find I listening to vocals distracts me from what I am working on.

I recently read an article that touched upon that very subject matter. Some of you may have seen it too because I am sure it was S32 related.
Movies are 50% visual and 50% audio. So it makes total sense to listen to music as you write and to draw your inspiration from it. Music makes us feel and by adding visuals to it with dialogue it can be very compelling.
