Self Promoting yourself and or your film

I know paid promotion is the best. But has anyone had any luck promoting their smaller films themselves?

I asked somewhere else because a writer friend asked me about getting your actors to help promote a micro-budget film. I guess he’s thinking of finally getting into production.

Lol got one private message you can’t but you can hire me.

Great reviews on big websites - target the biggest websites that appeal to fans of your genre.

Well respected film festivals - Movie Maker Magazine has a Top 50 list every year. You want a fest that draws packed cinemas (audience will tell their friends about your film), lots of press coverage (that will mention your film), and has jury members in the business or famous (if they tweet about your film, talk about it, etc - you now have a big name director or star publicizing your film).

Hey Gary McClurg - a lot of producers are writing it into contracts that actors must promote their films on their social media platforms a minimum amount of times on a set schedule. This is especially true if the actor is perhaps not traditionally known as an "A-List" actor but has an "influencer" type following on social media or youtube, etc.

And then some actors will post, but for only a certain additional amount per post. There was one actress I worked with who agreed to post to promote the movie, but for every post she wanted an additional $5k.

I’m trying to remember the old saying that went something like this.

You’re your best agent.

Now I understand if the movie is bad.

It seems filmmakers are not getting advances anymore, even with some known actors and with the streaming services paying less and less.

We all need to work together to make a film successful. And if the film is successful everyone involved can build off of that success.

Are at least that is the way I see it.
