On Writing : Where are all my fellow fantasy writers? by Christopher Poet

Where are all my fellow fantasy writers?

Hay guys! I am in a mood to binge through loglines and stuff! I am a huge fan of the fantasy genre so if you got anything you want me to read, drop a comment and I will check your profile out!

Off that topic, tell me something you love about the Fantasy Genre and something you Dislike about it!

Here is my take:

What I love: The endless potential in world-building. My mentor from ages ago had made a lot of effort in encouraging me to explore just how far I could build or develop what I was writing. From his words, any material can have an infinite potential in storytelling if you are willing to stick with it and develop it. The journey through such a process has been enlightening and amazing.

Something I dislike: You know that moment when the hero of the story uproots and destabilizes and the entire governmental body? Anyone else frustrated how often the aftermath of this moment is glossed over and treated as a happy ending? I will never fully understand why people (and this is not just in terms of Feature films, but TV shows and books do this too) skip over the aftermath of governmental collapse. At least Hunger Games made an attempt to show some effort to reformation lol. Not to mention that such an event opens up a lot of storytelling potential all on its own.

[Just moving this. Anything goes does not appear to get much attention)

Does anyone want to add to the second half of the post?

Brett Hoover

My biggest gripe with fantasy movies or books these days is the rehashing of the same ideas. Christopher Poet when you were talking about what you dislike, the first thing that popped into my mind was Star Wars. The original one ended with the death of the emperor but the Empire still remained. Yet, somehow it was a happy ending. I love Star Wars but it had the most uncreative villains ever. Let's build a death star, first one gets destroyed lets build another one. Second one gets destroyed lets build a death star planet. That gets taken out lets build ships with death stars. Its like no one realized we were being fed the same movies over and over again.

Christopher Poet

Brett Hoover I completely agree, but from a legends perspective, I give it a break. Legends added a lot of content I appreciated, including the political aftermath of the fall of the empire and it's fracturing into "warlords". I am a particular fan of the Heir to the Empire series.

That is one thing I always did love about Star Wars was the comics and how it built upon the movies and lore. Sadly, I think with the Disney sequel trilogy that will be the one thing I hate the most as instead of building upon the lore it only explains what was left out of the movies. I swear, its like I'm back in college again with assigned reading. I watched Rise of Skywalker and then they told the fans to understand the movie we had to read a book about it.

Christopher Poet

Brett Hoover I will agree, disney's feature films leave a LOT to be desired, but I did love Rogue One. In my opinion, that film was spot on perfect to my hopes. But, regardless, I am also happy we got Clone Wars S7 and Mandalorian. I really want to see more Mandalorian stuff though lol

Evelyn Von Warnitz

Christopher, thank you so much for your advice regarding my loglines. I appreciate it a lot. Let's connect. :)

Ingrid Goldberg

I have always believed that fantasy can be the catalyst to moments of definitive truths in the universe. Which universe? Only fantasy can take you there. I'd love a review of my loglines. Love and Strength to All!

Christopher Poet

Evelyn Von Warnitz My pleasure! Keep me posted if you update them or add more!

Hi Christopher Poet! Are you okay? Did you forget me? It wouldn't be the first time that I have been forgotten. It definitely won't be the last.
