Screenwriting : What to expect by Dirk Patton

What to expect

I have a scheduled meeting with a production company for a TV pilot I wrote. I was also just notified I'm a finalist in the 2020 ScreenCraft Fellowship contest with the same pilot and ScreenCraft wants to interview me as part of selecting a winner.

My question:

Can anyone provide some insight on what I can expect at either the meeting with the producer or the interview for the fellowship? How or what to prepare?

Rebecca D Robinson

That is amazing! Congratulations! I wish I had answers for you re the meeting - perhaps they just want to get to know you and find out where you got your inspiration for your story? And previous experience?

Hey Dirk, assuming you know your own TV pilot well - I wouldn't worry too much about that meeting. I would say: 1) Learn what this company does in detail. 2) Be prepared to talk passionately and clearly about your own project. 3) Be okay to respond to questions you feel you don't have good answers to with "That's a good question! What do you think?/I'm going to have to think about that!" I love those kind of meetings and don't worry too much about them - remember they brought you there in theory because they like your work - so that's great!
