Filmmaking / Directing : Thinking of making a short in Texas........................ by Miss Abigail Rich

Thinking of making a short in Texas........................

I have a feature film screenplay of a true story which I received positive feedback on from a Hollywood Producer/Actor/Director who read the script. He told this is a story that needs to be told and I should make it. More on that later...........A script has been completed to make a Short based on this feature film with the plan to submitted to festivals to collect awards and then find a buyer for the feature film. The feature film was supposed to begin filming in Feb but, due to Covid-19 it came to a screeching stop and the production company has since filed bankruptcy.

Now I need to get together with folks that want to be a part of this short and possibly the feature film. I do not know where to go from here so here's where everyone who has a vision, talent or the desire to take their career to the next level. This is a true story of abandonment, attempted murder, sexual assault,'s a horrific crash and most of all triumph over it all.

So let me hear from you, ideas, what you have to offer........ whatever

Robert Russo

Just curious whats the logline of the movie?

Miss Abigail Rich

Mr Russo, Is there a way that I can contact you?

John Ellis

My advice would be to make the sshort on your own - tap as many friends/family industry colleagues as you can to get it out there.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Agreed, John Ellis - you can shoot a short over the course of a day or weekend, so start with the people you'd ask to help you move. LOL!

Erick Freitas

Good luck! Make it happen!

Dan MaxXx

Do you have $$? I was messing around on Apple's website and they approved $10,000 apple credit! Ask cast & crew if they will take apple pay for working on your short.

Karen "Kay" Ross

Erick Freitas - Oh, how I LOVE that phrase! Shamelessly stolen from Tim Gunn during his tenure on Project Runway, of course, "MAKE IT WORK!" * long-distance high-five *

Karen "Kay" Ross

Dan MaxXx - do you have a link for that Apple Pay Credit? I'd love to know more!

Dan MaxXx

Karen "Kay" Ross it’s the apple website. Click on “apple credit card.”

Karen "Kay" Ross

Dan MaxXx I'm not seeing anything that says they are approving for $10k -

https://www.apple.com/apple-card/

Or is that just what you were approved for and everyone will be different?

Miss Abigail Rich

Seriously? Y'all fell for the line on Apple pay!?!?!?!?!? WOW!!!!

Doug Nelson

You've got way too many facets to deal with in a short (my opinion). Why not write & produce a really compelling human interest tale of triumph over abandonment. Can you do it in twelve pages (my challenge to you)?

Debbie Croysdale

Shame production was shot in the foot by Covid, I remember reading the book which was very moving. There are on line screenwriting festivals where executives look for this sort of drama and because you already have a book, any film offer made would be a split rights deal where they licence the book for adaption. Whereas selling a spec script to a studio/exec they have total rights. With split rights you can grow your ideas, make new stuff and benefit in future. Transmedia is an option Eg Podcast/Blog on story but do spin offs about these strong "universal" issues in general. Spin off could be interviews with others or radio talks. Gather up anyone willing to help with a short film and if producers are no longer on radar it can be done budget with good DOP/Edit/Sound. @Doug is right there is a lot of stuff to act out in a short, so maybe some scenes could be looking at newspaper clippings, what would have been a whole scene is cut to half a minute. Stay Safe!
