Acting : Business as usual? by Melanie Scroggins

Business as usual?

How has your business evolved or pivoted during COVID?

As a fully remote voice actor, the way I do business hasn't changed much, but the amount of work coming in during these last four months has been slow. It is just now picking up again.

What about you? How have you done or not done 'business as usual' during this time?

Matthew Cornwell

Hey, Melanie Scroggins . I'm in Atlanta. My wife and I own an audition taping service, and we share a big office suite with a voiceover studio. They, like you, have been pretty much business as usual. The TV/Film side (for us) died off almost 100% in early April. We also had to cancel our improv and on-camera classes. We were able to pivot one workshop we do to Zoom, and it has worked seamlessly. That has been the thing that has helped us through this down time.

Now, auditions are picking back up and so things are every-so-slowly going back to normal. However, we still have a very long way to go.

You may want to try learning other languages to open up additional opportunities. If you need resources for this let me know.

Matthew Cornwell - nice to meet you! Yea, the production companies I've been in touch with over the last few months were in the exact same spot as you. They're just now seeing more work, which is really encouraging. I'm glad to hear things are looking up now! Thank you for sharing.

I've put it all ONLINE.

I actually started acting during COVID - so - this is business as usual for me! Haha.

I'm starting to get back into the groove of hunting for VO auditions. On-camera work is still a no-go for me for the time being.
