Anything Goes : Spam? by Jerry Robbins

Jerry Robbins

Spam?

Is anyone else getting spammed by Network request that have people with no bios, just their names and then a link (in the bio section) ending with -- cloobxxx.bar?? The link goes to a sex site. Not sure who is behind it, but I've received about a half dozen this past week. Maybe the moderators can find out where they are coming from and stop it?

Gene Cartwright

Yes. I always check the person requesting a connection. If there is no bio or other informative data, or a suspicious website link (be sure and not click and allow cookies to be placed in your browser), I refuse the request. By the way, that's good practice for social networks, like FB.

Matthew H Emma

Continually. I just delete them.

Craig D Griffiths

So many.

I have it in my profile. No Bio, No connection.

Cherelynn Baker

Yes. I am receiving a rather generous amount of bots and no bios. Also, I don't own a car, yet I get phone calls about my car's warranty.

Richard Gustason

Yeah been getting those as well. I have just been deleting them.

Jerry Robbins

I delete them, but they seem to be steady. Just thought maybe the mods could trace who is placing them and stop it.

Richard Gustason

Jerry Robbins Have you contacted the mods? Because they can find a way to stop those.

Stephen Thompson

Yup, I've seen more boobies on this site than an emergency porn address.

Anthony Moore

I have dozens of old network requests that I never responded to because the bios were blank. I was giving them a chance to fill out their bios. A few of these have suddenly turned up with that same link. I'm now deleting all the ones with a link.

Bill Taub

I'll have to give it a try! :-)

Lilo Grunwald

Yes. As have I.

Christiane Lange

Yup! The link itself is a red flag, so didn't click it. Got 2 of them this week.

Cannon Rosenau

Yes, and I've declined them all. I also decline baby actors. They can't even talk or wipe themselves, but they're able to friend people on the internet? That's weird too right?

CJ Walley

They're bots. People write automated scripts that know how to register on sites, fill their bio with junk, and even make posts or message other users. Sadly, they are really hard to block as some even know how to get around stuff like CAPTCHA. The more popular a site, the more they get targeted and, once they're set in motion, they just keep submitting over and over.

Like a few others here, I never accept blank profiles. Bot or not, it's just unprofessional.

Cannon Rosenau

I JUST got another one that is probably a real person and he listed his job as "agent" but his bio said he's a loan officer. That's also annoying. People ruined the internet.

John Ellis

As I mentioned in another thread (about spam), I think S32's been hacked. That link is showing up in the bios of legit members - their original bios having been overwritten by "cloobxxx."

Debbie Croysdale

I got the clbx invite weeks back and realized after the first sentence what was going on. What is strange though is you see folk on this site who respond to non bios and open a dialogue that sucks in other unwitting guests. A bit like the old chain letter syndrome pre internet. Someone sucks in Joe Soap and then whoever knows Joe Soap believes the letter, not because of the letter's street cred but because of Joe's cred. And the scenario goes on! Yikes I just seen what @John said and I'm checking my bio now to see if they hacked me. Hope not cos I don't take prisoners!

Monique Teagle

Yes, I ignored the requests

Debbie Croysdale

Just today got another clbx request. Do they expect us to fall for a sting or head for a fall? Or just hookup? LOL

Debbie Croysdale

@All To add to what others this thread say about possibility of Stage 32 being hacked by spam etc. I noticed today one of my stage 32 loglines/synopsis (which I have now removed) had the words “re jumbled” to mean something else entirely and then tagged onto a website I have NEVER visited. I am not tech savvy, surely the only person able to tag something to any third party is the owner of that material? At first I thought someone who used to menace me in London (pizza’s sent my digs etc) had started their tricks again but I noticed on PicBear (do not have a clue who these people are) other Stage 32 folk are mentioned. This gives me the creeps cos its misrepresentation, words randomly shuffled to mean something else entirely that a reader may take face value. I don’t get this whole “tag” thing, its like someone driving off in your car without permission and misuse of intellectual property. But I’m not losing any sleep, just turning the darn internet off. @All stay safe!
