This is a short film that I composed the music for and also designed the SFX, mixed the audio etc. Citizen Blaine is about an ex-soldier, who has been through a lot. He has PTSD, which leads him to make some insane decisions while he tries to get some sleep in a hotel room.
For me, it really had me bouncing around between tragedy and madness throughout the score. As crazy and unpredictable as the main character is, I still needed to create a sense of understanding and, in a way, a slight nudge of sympathy for him. That was really an interesting thing to pull off, musically.
And I LOVE working with SFX and music together, which is exactly what I did for this movie. It gives me the chance to express what I'm trying to say using two tools at the same time. And that gets the message across in a super effective way, while not being too forward.
