Finding Beauty in the Struggle: The Flame

Hi! I'm Abraham Becker,

A little bit about me.. Once there was the small glowing ember of a flame, and it rested in a young man’s heart. The flame was unaware of all the wonder, beauty, and danger that surrounded it. As the flame travelled through space and time, it was tested, refined, shaped, exposed, and sculpted. One season, the flame was stolen from the young man by a force so powerful it commands the very darkness itself. A lie, but a powerful lie nonetheless. It swept the flame so far away, that the young man lost sight of its beauty.

Even though it was stolen and separated from the one it so dearly loved, the flame continued to burn, in its humble and gentle way, waiting for its time to return to the young man. Time passed, and the young man grew older. He settled down, got married, conceived a son, and every once in a while, he felt a deep and profound cry within him for the flame. He was working so hard to keep up with life that he forgot all about the flame, and he became very sick. In his bed, as he was recovering, he had a dream that the flame spoke to him. It said “You must leave this place, and come and search for me”. “If you do not come for me now, I will be lost forever”. And the man decided to make a change. Every day, he woke up and made it his mission to search for the flame, and the light began to return.

I cannot let the flame go out, and I have so much work to do to make sure it stays alive and burning bright!

Karen "Kay" Ross

Hey, Abraham Becker! My name is Kay, I'm the Community Manager here at Stage 32. If you'd like to learn more about myself and the Stage32 Team, we have an intro blog: https://www.stage32.com/blog/Meet-the-Stage-32-Team Nice to meet you!

What a beautiful allegory, thank you for sharing! For me, it really hit home, as I think it does for a lot of people who chose a career to stabilize their lives first and a vocation to pursue second. I was a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist for 14 years, it's what paid my way through my bachelor's degree (BFA in Fim & Video Production). What drew you to concept art? Was there a particular film or series?

I'd LOVE for you to post in the Animation Lounge! Lots of great, like-minded creatives there: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/animation

Keep in mind that these lounges are like the VIP Filmmaker's Lounges at Film Festivals, so this is where you can meet the people doing the work, get advice on anything you're working on, and/or give back to those who may need advice. We're a very supportive and encouraging community! I think you'd also enjoy my intro blog post on how to engage with the Stage32 Community:

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect! And, of course, feel free to reach out at any time. Cheers!
