Introduce Yourself : Amateur Screenwriter: Sitcom, Romcom, Fantasy... by Craig Parsons

Craig Parsons

Amateur Screenwriter: Sitcom, Romcom, Fantasy...

I hail from the Great Northwest and want to introduce myself to the creative community! I am hoping that more colleagues than crickets respond, but we'll see how the moon and the stars align.

I'm an occasional amateur screenwriter (e.g. unrepresented, unproduced) that once in a while, chases a wild hare down a rabbit hole to see where it will lead.

I've recently finished a draft of a low-budget comedy pilot (who hasn't, right?) which features an ensemble cast showcasing a female lead.

I mapped out the first eight episodes and paid for "coverage" which gave me a "feedback score" of 73 out of 100, a.k.a. "pass".

Is my writing career forever tarnished? Should I bury this script in the very rabbit hole I unearthed?

What say you?

Human and cricket feedback appreciated.

Thank you,

CP

Best of luck and welcome to Stage 32! We're on the same starting-out boat, but I haven't signed for a coverage plan yet so I can't really help you with that.

Welcome, Craig Parsons. Understand your concerns, but all I'd say is keep persevering. One person's comment or view on your work is definitive. Rejection and passes are part of the process we writers must go through. Established, jobbing screenwriters still have their work rejected by production companies; it doesn't change. So take the hit, but keep moving forward. Keep honing your craft, keep striving to get better and better at telling stories. And if you believe in your project, keep sending it out there. Here if you ever want to talk further, Craig.

The important thing is not the 'grade'. Focus on the actionable feedback you got. Then do a rewrite.

Welcome Craig. You'll find a lot of encouragement here.

Always keep in mind the only person who can end/bury/finish your writing career is you.
