Screenwriter

Hello to new folks! I just wanted to say THANK YOU to Stage 32 for my honor of being in the quarter-finals for the Animation contest and CONGRATS to all who placed and an even bigger congrats to the winner, Samantha Clay! Another big THANK YOU to Stage 32 for their great organizational skills. I am working on my Federal Income Tax today and was more than thrilled to find the YEARLY SUMMARY and TOTALS for the year. That and seeing the pet bunny in my yard while sitting here right now means I am a happy writer today! For the new people here, it is a great site and company and will not disappoint. I have gleaned a ton of good advice and have tweaked my scripts to the sparkle stage. I am pitching a lot and getting good reviews. Even if I am never discovered I know I have given it my best shot and have done my best work possible. This post is just a word to encourage all of you and to tell you I am thinking of you all today and hoping for your success, as well.

Angela, I want you to know thanks for the encouragement. I've been working towards my screenwriting dream for several years. All we can do is encourage one another to keep writing towards our dreams.

Angela VanZandt Bumpass

John, I wrote my first script in 1995. I have had a long, long history of "almost". I had one funded at one point for 15M and lost the funding due to 911. I have had two agents in Hollywood. Now they are an enigma for most. I have 9 of the 15 in development now with one in constant development for 25 years. It is a different path for each person. There are three possible outcomes in the Screenwriting Olympics. 1. Overnight discovery and success. I have seen this happen. Were they good? You bet. Better than the rest? Not necessarily. Big Breaks happen and they have to happen for "it" to happen. 2. Lifetime of trying and success late in life. Still, the break has to happen. 3. Lifetime of near or "almost" success with a big giant carrot being dangled before your nose - and you are a rabbit. You get to one inch before the summit of Everest and fall off the mountain and never get to taste the carrot. Maybe you are thinking #1 is the winner. Maybe you are thinking #2 is a winner. Maybe you are thinking #3 is a pathetic person. No, they are all winners because anyone finishing a script at all is a winner. No one can take that accomplishment away from you. It is intellectual property you own, like owning a piece of real estate or land! You can even pass it on to your heirs. A sense of accomplishment cannot be bought like a house, though. The best things in life are free...and maybe full of headaches and disappointments. We are not couch potatoes. We tried, we try.

Angela, again I thank you for this. I look at it like I climb over a wall. Pitching my comedy script to a big-time producer who then decides to do another project, working for pizza and beer on independent projects. Nothing wrong with pizza and beer Lol! I have wanted to do one thing in my life and that's being a screenwriter. I keep climbing over those walls. Don't get me wrong I'm a screenwriter not making a living as one is hard. Working my dead-end job is hard, watching people have success is hard. The walls keep popping up, In the end, no matter what happens I can hold my head up high and say I did my best. I know that I'm going to keep climbing those walls. Maybe, someday when I'm climbing that wall someone will reach their hand out and say, let's make that movie, John.

John, one thing I learned is to diversify so I do not want one thing too much. Maybe find other ways to use your writing talents. I am also an Impressionist painter. Keep on trying to sell a script and maybe one day you will. I hope so. I have seen friends make it and that makes me happy.
