Quick question Lisa. I don’t have a rep. What sort of services should I look for from a rep? personal I am interested in “write for hire” work and someone with some contacts to larger budget companies.
What advice would you give?
Research research research! It's hard to break into the industry. Sometimes start low and work your way up. You need to write excellent scripts, make new contacts, and don't badger people. The more you get your name out there, the better off you are. And Never...never send unsolicited scripts They won't get looked at. Find a rep who doesn't mind you marketing your own work, as well. Make sure there is a contract in place to CYA as well as the reps. If you have any questions please feel free to message me. All the best!

Barry - Did you convert your scripts to prose form, or publish them in script format? I'm currently converting a script to prose. It's not very hard.

You dont charge your clients a monthly fee, do you? And which are you - an agent or a manager? Because those are 2 very different things in Screenwriting and serve different purposes and have different legal requirements.. And since youre in Florida, do you have contacts in Los Angeles and NY to get your clients meetings and put them up for OWAs and Staffing?

It's absolutely essential (and common professional practice) that a manager provides a regular update on all industry members contacted on behalf of a client, regardless of the results. If a writer doesn't have this information, they can easily be made to look unprofessional by unwittingly reaching out to people (via another rep or personally) who've already passed on their material.

Danny Manus... I do not charge anyone a monthly or up front fee. I simply take commission on sales or options on the back end. I am a Book Editor - Screenwriter Manager - Literary Agent. I do know they all have different legal requirements. Currently, I am working with certain Indie Producers who have produced/directed other films. I am always searching for 'bigger' producers, however, in this industry, it takes a very long time to make connections.
