Screenwriting : I have finished my pilot by Paul Hickman

Paul Hickman

I have finished my pilot

Hello to all.

I have finally finished my pilot for an idea I have been sat on for quite some time. It isn't perfect by any means but neither was Rocky at the beginning and look where that ended up! I don't claim to be a writer at all but I do have the ideas for the story lines to have this project run for multiple seasons but would say a collaborative approach with other writers would be the best way forward. Any advice would be much appreciated as regards getting it in front of the right people to actually make this a reality. Protection is something I have looked into but as I live in the UK we don't seem to have anything official that allows me to protect the idea.

Many thanks in advance for anything positive you can throw my way.

Well done on completing your pilot, Paul. So, if it's not yet "perfect by any means", then after a short break if you need it, it's time for the rewriting process. If you need help working out what's working and what isn't, then by all means come have a chat anytime.

As for script protection, in the UK your IP is protected automatically once you've written it. See this link from the UK government site: https://www.gov.uk/copyright How's that for positive? ;-) Of course, you can always get additional protection if you like by registering it with the WGA or Library of Congress in the States, especially if you're planning to market this stateside.

Awesome!

Congratulations, Paul! I agree with Phil, definitely put it in a drawer and let it sit for a bit before you start your rewrites. Stage 32 has a few great options for coverage (both from execs and professional readers) for notes on how to make your next draft better. You might also find a like-minded writer here in the lounges who would be willing to give your script a read! Either way, feedback from others is a necessity to get it in top shape.
