Introduce Yourself : A new old soul by Carleton Bluford

A new old soul

Hello everyone. I'm glad I found this group.

I am an Actor/writer/singer who has been working in the industry for all of my life.

I've written a screenplay called "Cowboy" about an African American house slave who to taught the trade of bounty hunting and promised freedom if he hunts down his own runaway slave father. I'm working on getting this produced.

One of my goals is to be in and create roles for bipoc people that you wouldn't normally see them in, for example, a black Cowboy or a Black Sherlock Holmes.

Being from Utah has given me a unique perspective I feel and I believe it's not only important to be a good artist, but to be a good person as well.

Hey, Carleton Bluford! Great to meet you, and welcome to the community! Wow, that is an intense and awesome story you've got with "Cowboy" - what was your inspiration? Is it based on a true story?

I'm totally on board with your mission! Are you interested in writing for television or for film? Did you catch Mike Gauyo's webinar by chance? He's so open and so generous with his advice, I think you'd really enjoy it: https://www.stage32.com/webinars/How-to-Break-In-And-Excel-in-a-TV-Write...

Ooo, I see that you're a playwright as well? I'd LOVE for you to post in the Authoring & Playwriting Lounge! Maybe you could share a bit about how playwriting prepared you for screenwriting, and what challenges you had to face when changing formats? https://www.stage32.com/lounge/playwriting

Of course, I'd love for you to check out the Acting Lounge as well: https://www.stage32.com/lounge/acting Are you looking for on-screen work as well?

Welcome and the screenplay is good

Carleton Bluford

Hello Kay. Cowboy is something that came to me when I was acting in Jackson Hole Wyoming as a cowboy at The Jackson Hole Playhouse. I was the only black cowboy and that made me wonder what that movie would look like.

I am interested in writing for television as well as film. I haven't caught Mike's webinar but thank you for the link, I will definitely check it out.

I will post in the playwriting lounge, thank you for bringing it to my attention. I'm still so new to this site.

And yes, I am looking to work on-screen as well.

I have to say I love your mission and general attitude as well. You seem like exactly the kind of person I like to work with and support. I'm just getting into Voice Over so I may have some questions for you. But thank you so much for sharing all of this info for me.
