Anything Goes : Are You Concerned About Climate Change? by Saji Mathew

Are You Concerned About Climate Change?

Recently we've witnessed heatwaves across the western Canada and parts of the US. Also there is sea-level rise and human migration the world over. In connection to global warming, melting of the Antarctic ice will also open up huge collection of deadly viruses which could be exposed to the human population.

The above points have been written to get your attention to the climate disasters and catastrophic events yet to unfold. I think we and the world leaders are not taking this matter seriously, so we need to highlight the fact that climate change has the caliber to wipe out human race on Earth.

What're your thoughts?

Richard Buzzell

Yes I'm concerned and I've written a short script about it called Denial Deja Vu.

Saji Mathew

I had published a book on Amazon about climate change and just completed its screenplay for a feature film in English and Hindi.

Doug Nelson

Concerned about it? Not really. There have been numerous mass extinctions during the past several eras - it seems to be a pattern. What I find interesting is that we humans are so hell-bent to encourage/promote it. I try to just go with the flow.

Saji Mathew

Doug Nelson , Those mass extinctions were due to natural cause but what we face today in the form of climate change is a man-made disaster which can be averted if we take proper remedial measures like pollution control etc. So, that makes all the difference! By creating awareness, we can reduce global warming and put a break on climate change. Climate authors, scientists, creative writers and social activists have a lot to do in this regard, and that's why "we are hell-bent to..." Hope you rethink on this point.

Doug Nelson

I view human nature as a natural cause. We all know that war is not good for humans and other living beings - but we do it anyway. We all know that extinction is not in our best interest - but we keep trying to hurry it along. And we seem to being a pretty good job of it.

Saji Mathew I fear that ship has sailed. No amount of pollution control can stop what we've already set in motion and it's anybody's guess what will happen next with agriculture and animals. Sadly, I think we're all looking at a situation resembling that movie The Road. They shot that in Pittsburgh cause they didn't have to do too much to make it look apocalyptic. And that was 11 years ago.

Hey Saji, this is Karen from the Stage 32 team. I just wanted to let you know I moved your post from Filmmaking / Directing to Anything Goes, as it fits much better there. Let me know if you have any questions, and all the best to you!

Saji Mathew: I am very concerned about climate change and habitat and species diversity loss. I work part time as a biological monitor. What is concerning and sad to me is unfortunately, many of my generation and older who are in denial regarding the acceleration of these changes due to anthropogenic activity. The well researched data and science are there clearly demonstrating the dramatic affects that our species has had on this process. It is NOT correlation but causation at this point. To just give up and accept a fatalistic purview that there is not much that can be done at this point by some is also troubling. Yeah, just keep doing what ya'll been doing and continue carrying on in your existences as if nothing can be done or nothing really matters. Right now, this is the ONLY planet our species is capable of surviving on. Who cares if there is no acceptable air to breathe, water to drink, or tolerable surface temperatures to survive within. Who gives a rat's ass if your kids and grandkids won't be able to survive on the Earth any longer. The last thing we need right now is that type of fatalistic attitude. What we could use is cooperation of our entire species as a whole to instigate change. Okay, I will now hop off my soapbox...

I am absolutely VERY concerned about the climate crisis. Well, it's my career anyway, but I am knee deep into the topic! I've managed to overcome eco-anxiety and am now on the frontlines, but it is still sometimes feels like a lost cause. Will never give up, though! Let's keep doing something about it! Any step forward is a step towards progress, no matter how small!
