Hi everyone.
I've been around Stage 32 and the Writers' Room for awhile now. Before that, I had been writing alone in a vacuum getting some recognition but not networking.
I consider myself an extrovert by nature but my networking has always been low stakes until now. It's always easier to connect friends or make an awesome restaurant recommendation. :) However, when I started networking for myself and for my writing, it felt more vulnerable.
There is always fear in reaching out and being misunderstood or having your work judged through a critical lens that you don't see.
However, I think when I re-framed my thinking in a few ways that helped me be okay with putting my work out there...
--There's nothing gained by not sharing my work.
--The work has to be received at the right time by the right person.
--My work is an extension of me but is not synonymous with me.
Carrying these ideas with me allows me to put my best foot forward.
My mantra in life is to also bring people with you on the journey and surround yourself with good people. There is only gain to be made in sharing knowledge, supporting one another, and lifting people up.
This platform has been a place to safely be a creative and shout it from the rooftops. I've always found I've known when I truly fit in somewhere, and it's when I talk about something I'm passionate about that people actually nod in agreement and can engage in spirited conversations. I've seen that in the coverage report, pitch practice, the pitch tanks, and the likes of all of those.
Our fears are often our opportunities. Cheers and happy creating,
Rebecca (Reb) Greene
Rebecca Glazer What a positive message! Are you a fan of crime dramas?
Hunter Huiet thanks. I'm pretty faint of heart, but it depends on how psychologically scary it is. :)

A profound, inspirational leader I follow says 'fear is the mind creating unwanted stories'. When added to elements from Steve Preston's "The War of Art" regarding resistance, we have the opportunity to focus attention on what is WANTED instead. And am we all seek creative fulfillment, abundance and joy more than anything
Beth MacLean I'm glad it resonates! Hope to see you out and about.
