This was my first writing gig, fresh out of film school over 10 years ago. I was hired by a producer to write a feature and as the project was time sensitive, he asked me to begin work on the script while the contract was being drafted. Naive and eager to work, I proceeded without question and eventually delivered two drafts without so much as a sniff of a contract. So when the producer scrapped the film entirely, the experience left me with an important lesson. Always have a written agreement in place before beginning any work!

That is GREAT advice Vishaal Desai! It is always good to have rates/contracts understood and written down before starting a project. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Taylor C. Baker! Unfortunately many young writers, myself included, have learnt this the hard way. I hope that's something that changes!
