Question About Mandy.com

Hey, y'all! I saw a listing on Mandy.com casting for a Pilot Pitch Presentation - unpaid. The role is spot on for me, but it seemed a bit odd for Mandy. Suddenly, all I could think was - have I not been on Mandy in a minute? Are they only offering student and unpaid work? Are people casting in the pitch deck phase?

What's been your experience with it? What kind of work have you found on that site? I know the crew listings are hit-or-miss, but curious how it fares with cast. Share your best and worst below!

Seems odd that they wouldn't be posting on Actors Access or other sites that actors actually frequent the most. To me, that would be a yellow flag (not quite a red flag) that perhaps they aren't as professional as they could be.

That said, it could be an amazing experience with a project that could get into a bidding war at next year's TIFF or Sundance, etc etc. It's certainly a crap shoot.

To your actual question, I've never frequented Mandy.com.

Thanks, Matthew! Yeah, I think I'm going to opt out of Mandy.com all together in favor of Actors Access and Backstage.

On Mandy, I only find unpaid work or minimum wage freelance gigs from time to time. People told me that I would get more stuff with the paid version of Mandy, but I never tried it.

Speaking of bad experiences: I applied for an opportunity once which was a 4-months internship in London (travel expenses only) to do a bunch of pitch decks, treatments, admin tasks, write and read screenplays, plus translations. Full-time. The only way I did it was because my parents helped me with the house for that time. I think this needs to stop...

Most UK dot com sites advertising talent tend to be closed shop businesses for a fee same as most others.
