Your First Lead Role & Graciously Dodging Nosey Questions

Okay, first off, I freaking love Mahershala Ali, and I'm so glad to hear he will finally be the lead role in "Swan Song"! It's kinda surprising it's his first leading role, actually, but now that I think about it, that does seem right. It's amazing how that lead role doesn't necessarily require years of playing a supporting role to attain - take Simu Liu in Shang-Chi as an example. How did you land your first leading role?

Also, mad props to Mr. Ali for being so gracious as he refused to reveal too much about his upcoming involvement in "Blade": “I mean, you’re not going to get a great answer, but I will dodge your questions as graciously as possible,” Ali jokes when the subject of “Blade” is broached." So classy! How do you handle questions about things you're not allowed to talk about? Share below!

I did a day on True Detective S3, and my scene was with Ali (and Blade alum Stephen Dorff). My scene got cut, but they were both such a pleasure to work with. I love actors like Mahershala who have no pretense. His cast chair wasn't in a separate location away from the day players like me. And I think it's great he holds stuff close to the vest.

The only things I can't talk about are the unreleased projects I've shot, and I just refer to my NDAs when family or friends ask me about it. It'll be nice to be #1 on the call sheet and have the whole studio guiding you on what can/can't be said :)
