Introduce Yourself : Just looking to make other people famous. by Brian Lajeunesse

Just looking to make other people famous.

Howdy! I joined the site a month or two ago... by accident, really. I took an interest to writing in high school. It kind of got lost along the way. Life happened. I got married had a big family and forgot about it. I always said I'd try writing a screenplay one day. It's not like I didn't keep writing all those years... it just was in a different way. Self published some books with no success. When Covid hit (at the same time as a surgery) I decided now would be as good a time as any. I just finished my 4th in 2 years. It's a movie adaptation loosely based on John Milton's Paradise Lost.

I've had a blast learning this craft and can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Maurice Vaughan

Congrats on finishing your fourth script. How's your weekend going?

Brian Lajeunesse

Uneventful weekend... that's not a bad thing. I'm impatiently waiting for some coverage for the last screenplay. I got some from another source that wasn't stellar. I wanted another opinion before I start pulling it apart. Fantasy is not a genre I've tried before... maybe it's just not my thing.

Michael Keeling

You'll learn to write Fantasy in no time if that's what you want to do, I writer Fantasy/Supernatural Stuff, It will take time. If you need a hand or a reader let me know :) I also recommend watching some Fanatsy films for World Building and such :)

Michael Keeling

Also, welcome to the world of screenwriting :)

Maurice Vaughan

I get multiple coverage on my scripts also, Brian. Fantasy is hard to pull off at first. Maybe write some Fantasy short scripts as practice. What other genres do you write?

Brian Lajeunesse

So far it’s been dramas. I have one that’s kind of an homage to my teen years in 1986. It’s my love letter to the metal years. But I also have one that is a loose modern retelling of the biblical story of Job. I have an idea for a crime thriller with a supernatural element to it but also have started sketching out a romantic comedy a la “when Harry met sally”.

Love that you took advantage of the downtime to get after it, Brian. If you haven't already, I highly recommend connecting with Jason Mirch who heads up all development efforts here at Stage 32 and works directly with our executive roster of over 1000 industry insiders. Jason Mirch

Paradise Lost is one of my favorites! In fact, I've used it when discussing point of view for characters and how to get your audiences empathy synapses firing. Very cool to see that you've adapted that for the screen. Also this is a lesson to other screenwriters - find something in public domain and update it for a modern audience.

As Richard "RB" Botto says - I am here to help you - email me at j.mirch@stage32.com and I will be happy to offer guidance on this project and the others you have in the portfolio.

Maurice Vaughan

Exciting projects, Brian. Best to you on them.
