1 Film - 1 Premiere - 4 Laurels - how to make it work for talent & crew?

Hi Stage32 colleagues, friends and peers to meet soon :)

I'm a writer, director, producer & film lecturer with a feature doco having its premiere end July in Melbourne, Australia @MDFF with 3 more sets of laurels to add to the trailer and poster. A PR company is getting the word out - now I'm working on how to make the accolades benefit the talent & crew. Guess it starts with me!

Karen "Kay" Ross recently published a great blog about a polished Stage32 profile and it's a timely reminder - https://www.stage32.com/blog/Take-the-Work-Out-of-Networking-The-Importa...

I'll jump on that later this week. I'm also keen to pick up tips from other filmmakers about how to make the most of the laurels and share some I've learned along the way.

Next step - getting the film to land on screens in the USA :) See you in the Lounge. RB

Matthew Cornwell

Congrats on the doc! I just got my first set of laurels for a pilot I wrote and produced, and am trying to figure out the same next steps. Best of luck!

Marli J Monroe

Welcome to the Stage 32 community...and congratulations on your July premiere! Very exciting all the way 'round! : )

Renée Brack

Thanks Matthew and Marli. We can share tips, next steps, what works / doesn't work [thank you Robert McKee]. One thing I've discovered already - the trailer and poster for my doco is now out of date with only 1 set of film laurels with more festival notifications coming through June / July. Finding the best method to update trailer & poster - make new social media announcements? Replace existing assets online with the latest assets every time the trailer and poster need updating with laurels? Then there's the separate element of awards and prize wins. Lots to do!

Matthew Cornwell

Yeah you need a designer who is able to easily update the graphics. If you do it yourself, make sure the program you use is easily updated. I use Procreate on my iPad Pro for graphics. Super easy and really robust.

My problem is that I realized my poster is selling a different genre than my trailer. Now I gotta work to reconcile those...

Suzy Miller

I use Canva.com to update a high res jpg/png of the poster. With the paid version you can remove the background of the laurels so they look better on the poster.

Maurice Vaughan

Hi, Renée Brack. Great to hear the premiere is going well! Thanks for the blog link. I plan to check it out. Best to you on getting your film on US screens! Have a great, creative week!

I also use Canva, Suzy Miller. Great platform.
